Most people don’t realise the versatility of metalwork for outdoor areas. Metal,
apart from being functional – seats, fencing, stairs – can be wonderfully sculptural too. This image was taken a couple of weeks ago during the last bit of snow we had. It’s of one of the giant spheres Alex makes (I think it’s around 2.5 metres). Apart from the beauty of the setting – the sheep field next to our workshop – the sphere is a striking feature, casting dramatic shadows throughout the day and helping the sheep play hide and seek! It’s the first sight visitors get as they approach the workshop and the first insight into our work. This sphere was made for a client and it’s due to be leaving us soon. It will literally leave a big hole in our lives when it goes, one which we’ll be looking to fill with our next giant project. Ideas anyone?
